Rules of entry
Please read these rules carefully. If you enter this competition, we will assume that you have read these rules and understand them. Please also ask permission from a parent or guardian before entering.
- NO PURCHASE NECESSARY. The competition (“Competition”) runs from 24th September 2007 to 31st March 2008 (inclusive) and is open to all legal UK residents who are between the ages of 10 to 14 years old (inclusive) as of 31st March 2008, providing they accompany their entry with a fully completed entry form. Children of Visa employees, its Member Financial Institutions, participating partner vendors and sponsors, parent/subsidiary companies, distributors, advertising and promotion agencies, and their agents/suppliers and affiliated persons (collectively, “Sponsor Entities”) are not permitted to enter. The Competition is subject to all applicable laws and regulations in England and Wales. The Competition is void wherever prohibited by law.
- HOW TO ENTER. From 24th September 2007 through 31st March 2008 (the “Competition Period”), Visa Europe (“Sponsor”) will conduct a contest promoting the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, China. To enter, entrants must use their imagination to create a piece of original artwork (by hand or on computer) that shows how the Olympic Games can unite different cultures and captures the spirit of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games – “One World, One Dream”. To enter the Competition, entrants must obtain an official entry form by logging on to the Competition website at www.visaeurope.com/voi/, print the official entry form, and mail their entry together with their completed entry form to VOI Competition, Eloqui Public Relations, 99 – 101 Regent Street, London, W1B 4EZ. All entries must be accompanied by one paragraph (50 words or less) describing how the image supports the competition’s theme, ”Create a drawing that shows how the Olympic Games can help to unite cultures around the world, and create One World, One Dream.” Each entry also must have a descriptive title. Final artwork must be no larger than A3 (297mm x 420mm or 11” x 17” and no smaller than A4 (210mm x 297mm) or 8.5” x 11”. Digital files must be submitted as 300dpi flattened JPEG files and may be no larger than 2 megabytes. Electronic artwork must be submitted on an external file storage device (e.g. CD-Rom, floppy disk, flash drive etc.) Please note that external file storage devices will NOT be returned. Entrants may enter as many times as they wish but each entry must be different and entered separately and must comply with all applicable conditions of entry. All artwork must be original, created solely by one individual entrant and never previously published. Digital artwork must be an illustration only – no photographic elements are permitted. Commercial identification of any sort (e.g. depiction of an advertisement on the stadium wall or brand logos on clothing) will not be allowed. Three-dimensional artwork will not be accepted. Sponsor is not responsible for lost, late, incomplete, illegible, damaged or misdirected entries and will not accept entries without sufficient postage or larger than 2Mb. Entrants assume all responsibility for correct formatting of digital entry, or proper packing, shipping and cost of entry, and accept all responsibility for damage to artwork in transit/corrupt files. Each entry must be accompanied by a completed and accurate entry form. All entries must be received by 11:59 p.m. on 31st March 2008. Participants who submit an entry that fails to meet any of the criteria set forth in the Official Rules or otherwise will be disqualified. In the event of an error in the running of the Competition, resulting in more winners than prizes. Sponsor shall be permitted to allocate the prizes by way of a draw, Visa reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to cancel, modify or suspend the Competition for any reason.
- HOW TO WIN. By midnight on the 18th April 2008, 12 regional winners (the “Regional Winners”) of the Competition will be announced. For the purposes of this Competition, the Sponsor shall adopt the Department for Children, Schools and Families' analysis of what a "region" is. They will be chosen by a panel of judges selected by Sponsor (the “Judges”) from all eligible entries received by the dates specified above. Entries will be judged on the basis of the artwork’s originality and imagination (50%) and the artwork’s artistic merit (50%). Judges will have access to the written paragraph to assist them to assess the level of originality and imagination of each entry so the title and accompanying paragraph will form part of the judging process. Judges’ decisions are final on all matters relating to this Competition. The Regional Winners will be notified by e-mail, mail and/or telephone and must meet all eligibility requirements. The first prize winner will be announced by midnight on 14th May 2008.
- PRIZES. The First Prize will be awarded to the best entry submitted to this Competition from all entries received from the Regional Winners as decided by the Judges (the "Winner"). Each Regional Winner (12 in total) will receive £1,000 for their school to spend on art or sports equipment. Similar competitions are being held in other countries around the world, with each country awarding one or more First Prizes to entrants within its jurisdiction. Each First Prize consists of a five nights, six day trip for the winner and their parent/legal guardian to the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, China, including accommodation in a 5 star hotel (double occupancy), return economy class flights from winner’s closest airport to the Olympic Games, selected meals and admission to selected Olympic events. Approximate value of each First Prize is US$14,000, depending on country of origin. Payment of all taxes on the prize and expenses not listed above are the Winner’s responsibility. Winner and parent/legal guardian must be able to travel between August 5 and August 12, 2008 or they will forfeit the prize. No substitution, cash equivalent or transfer of prize permitted, except at Sponsor’s sole discretion. The prize will be delivered to the Winner’s parent/legal guardian. In the event of a tie, duplicate prizes may be awarded. At the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, China, one grand prize winner (the “Grand Prize Winner”) will be selected from all First Prize winners. The Grand Prize shall consist of a four night, five day trip for the winner and their parent/legal guardian to the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver, Canada, including accommodation (double occupancy), return economy class flight from winner’s closest airport to the Olympic Winter Games, and entry to three Olympic events, to be decided by the Sponsor. Approximate value of the Grand Prize is US$14,000, depending on country of origin. Payment of all taxes on the prize and expenses not listed above are the winner’s responsibility. Winner and parent/legal guardian must be able to travel between February 10-28, 2010, or they will forfeit the prize. No substitution, cash equivalent or transfer of prize permitted, except at Sponsor’s sole discretion. The prize will be delivered to the winner’s parent/legal guardian.
- WINNER’S LIST OR OFFICIAL RULES. For names of the winners or a copy of the Official Rules, please send a self-addressed envelope, by October 31, 2008, to “Imagination 2008”, 900 Metro Center Blvd., M1-12L, Foster City, CA 94404, USA. Please specify “Official Rules” or “Winners” on envelope.
- GENERAL RULES AND REGULATIONS. By participating, the entrant transfers all rights in and to the artwork and written paragraphs forming part of its entry to this Competition (including all copyrights) to Sponsor and agrees to these Official Rules and accepts the final decisions of Sponsor and its Judges. Entries and any storage device containing electronic entries are the property of Sponsor and will not be returned. By submitting an entry, participants grant the Sponsor and the Sponsor Entities the right to use, re-use, publish and re-publish, in whole or in part, in composite or distorted in character of form, without restricting their entry submissions and their licenses, image or photograph, in any and all media, now or hereafter, for promotion, illustration, editorial, art, advertising, marketing, trade or any other purpose whatsoever without compensation. The Winner may be required to take part in publicity resulting from this Competition. Personal information about the winners will be shared with the Sponsor's agents and suppliers to the extent required for the prizes to be delivered to the winners. Winner’s parents or legal guardians must execute any documents necessary to perfect such rights in the Sponsor or Sponsor Entities. Additionally, Winner and Winner’s parents or legal guardians will each be required to sign affidavits of eligibility, tax acknowledgment forms, liability releases and, except where prohibited by law, use of name and likeness releases. (“Winner Documents”) and return within five (5) days of issuance of notification. If (i) the Sponsor is unable to notify the Winner of his or her eligibility for a prize due to the Winner having provided incorrect or out of date contact details to the Sponsor, (ii) Winner declines his or her prize or fails to formally accept it by 15th May 2008, or (iii) Winner fails to sign any required Winner Documents or to comply with any of the Official Rules and Regulations as outlined herein, Winner will be disqualified and an alternate winner will be selected at Sponsor’s sole discretion. Winner and legal guardian must have valid passports/visas and be eligible for entry to China and Vancouver, Canada, (if applicable) on the travel dates set forth by Sponsor. The Sponsor Entities expressly disclaim any responsibility and entrants agree to indemnify and hold harmless the Sponsor and Sponsor Entities, and their respective employees, officers, directors, shareholders and agents, from and against any and all claims, actions, demands and/or liability for injury, damage or loss whatsoever relating to or arising in connection with participation in this Competition (regardless of the cause of such injury or loss) or the delivery and/or subsequent use or misuse of any of the prizes awarded except that nothing in these Official Rules shall limit in any way the Sponsor's liability for death or personal injury caused by its negligence. . Additionally, by entering this Competition, participants represent and warrant that their submission is original and does not infringe on the rights or intellectual property claims of any third party or entity and agree to indemnify and hold the Sponsor and Sponsor Entities harmless for any related claims. No more than the stated number of prizes per these Official Rules will be awarded.
